Today, I will be discussing some lip products from one of my favorite high end makeup brands; Too Faced, of course! For lip products, Too Faced isn’t a company that I normally turn to, so I thought that it would be fun to give it a go and splurge on four different Too Faced lip products. The products that mainly caught my eye were the new La Creme mystical lipstick shades from the Life’s a Festival collection. These shades actually change color based on your body temperature, and the shades vary from person to person. Not only that, the shimmer/glowiness is insane, and wouldn’t a lipstick that’s named “angel tears” catch your eye too? I picked up 3 products from this collection, as well as lip injection glossy, my first lip injection purchase in years! Here are my thoughts on these purchases:
La Creme Mystical Lipstick: Angel Tears
I’m not gonna lie, the reason why these La Creme lip products stood out to me is because of the creative names. Angel Tears is such a pretty name, and is perfect for this lip color. I chose Angel Tears because the color is probably the most wearable shade of the collection, and I wanted something I could use for everyday wear. Angel tears is this beautiful frosted color that completely covers your natural lip color, despite being such a light shade. Other than the frosty overlay, this shade doesn't have much color to it, so this isn’t for you if you’re looking for a dramatic, intense lip shade. Don't be fooled by the nude color of the actual lipstick when you first open the tube, because these La Creme products are extremely pigmented, almost too pigmented. I recommend blotting your lips after application because it goes on so strong. Even though this is a light color, the application is much bolder on your lips than you may expect from a color this light. But it’s nothing a little blotting can’t fix!
As I mentioned before, this is the most wearable color of the four in this collection. If you only end up purchasing one of these, I would recommend this one. This beautiful, frosty white color will make you feel like a snow princess!
La Creme Mystical Lipstick: Fairy Tears
When I first applied this color to my lips, I was in shock! What’s strange is that the lipstick itself appears to be nude, but once you apply it to your lips, it immediately leaves a vibrant, almost magenta, pink color on your lips. Like Angel Tears, this color is EXTREMELY pigmented, and this shade is even more so. If you are looking for something darker and vibrant, this is the shade for you! It is a pretty bold color, but I would still consider this shade to be fairly wearable for everyday (but just barely!)
This example photo from the Sephora website is a bit misleading because this shade did not have any coral or orange undertones at all, as it appears in the picture. If anything, it’s a “Barbie pink”, magenta, sort of color. If you ignore the orange outline in this photo, the pink that you see in the fuller parts of her lips are pretty close to the actual shade, though it appears more darker and vibrant in person than in the picture. Again, keep in mind that this is a very pigmented product! It is a bright, girly, magenta color that would be great for a girls night out. If you’re like me and you’re not a fan of coral shades or orange undertones, don’t let this picture deter you from purchasing this shade! The shade did not have any hint of coral or orange for either me or my friend (and we both have different skin tones!)
If you like bold pink shades, I would give this one a try. Some people may think that it is a bit too bold for everyday wear, but I like keeping this around for days when I want to do something a little extra with my makeup. I think that I actually prefer this one over angel tears, just because of how unique it is. I’ve never seen a lip shade like this one before! This is perfect for when I want to channel my inner Elle Woods.
Magic Crystal Lip Topper: Angel Tears
This Magic Crystal Lip Topper is meant to be layered on top of the corresponding La Creme lipstick color. I decided to choose either Angel Tears or Fairy Tears rather than purchasing both, because these lip toppers simply act as a glossy top coat, with the La Creme products as the main event. I chose Angel Tears because it is the lightest color and would look nice layered over both La Creme lipsticks I purchased.
These products aren’t as useful as the La Crème lipsticks are, because they are not pigmented and only add a glossy sheen. There is very minimal color and this product only acts as an additional glossy shine on top of the lipstick you’ve already applied. I also noticed that if you apply it on it’s own without the corresponding lipstick, the staying power is not very good. Again, there was little to no color difference on my lips, simply a glossy sheen. My verdict is that this product isn’t a bad one by any means, but it is a waste of money. Unless you are specifically looking for a glossy shine to layer on top of your lipsticks, this won’t be what you’re looking for (even then, you can find cheaper, more effective products other than this one). Basically, this purchase was really of pointless. If you are deciding between the lip topper line and the La Crème lipsticks, go with the lipsticks. This was a beautiful purchase, but a bit unnecessary, especially for the price.
Lip Injection Glossy: Like a Boss
It’s strange, because you’d expect this to be a purple lip gloss according to the tube. However, the actual color looks nothing like this. This is a pink shade, not a purple one, so don’t be alarmed by the misleading, bold purple tube. It doesn’t appear that way on your lips upon application, I promise! I purchased this shade because I saw it on someone else in a YouTube video, and I was floored at how gorgeous and glossy this product was on her lips. I was a bit wary because of the vibrant purple color of the tube (I personally am not a fan of bold lipstick colors like purple or blue, and I usually stick to pink shades) but the product looked so gorgeous in the video, I just had to give it a try! I made the right decision because sure enough, the color definitely appears pink, not purple, upon application. I’m not sure why they made it with this misleading purple colored tube, because the purple is very subtle and the actual shade is a pretty pink color. If you refer back to my selfie in the post about my Asian eyelid surgery experience, I’m actually wearing this exact color in that picture (though it had faded a bit by then).
Remember that this is also a lip injection product, which means that it will tingle! It does sting a bit when applied, but it is supposed to make your lips plumper, mimicking lip injections (hence the name lip injection plumper).
Looks like I saved the best for last! This was my favorite of the 4 lip products I purchased, and the one that I reach for the most often. This lip product is just as glossy as the Magic Crystal Lip Topper mentioned before, but much more pigmented. This is perfect for everyday wear and the best part is, it's so glossy you can see the shine, even from a distance! At first I admittedly didn't like this product because I thought that the stinging was too painful, but after a few applications, I got used to it. I also noticed that it did add definition to my lips, especially my top lip. My small lips are something that I am self conscious about sometimes, so this lip injection glossy is a major confidence booster!
My final ranking in order from favorite to least favorite is:
Lip Injection Glossy: Like a Boss
La Crème: Fairy Tears
La Crème: Angel Tears
Magic Crystal Lip Topper: Angel Tears
Have you tried any of these Too Faced lip products? If not, which one of these products would you like to give a try? Also, let me know in the comments what your favorite lip products are (cruelty free only please); I’m always looking for makeup recommendations!
